SONS UNHARMED AFTER FATHER KILLS SELF IN HOME.(MAIN)

YORK, Pa. A man holed up with his five sons held police at bay for 10 hours and shot an officer Thursday before police stormed his home. They found the gunman dead of an apparent suicide.

Police do not know if Robert Fegely was holding his sons, ages 4 to 17, against their wills. They walked out unharmed about six hours after the standoff began.

The standoff began around 4 a.m. when shots were fired in the home and Fegely's wife, Dawn, ran to a neighbor's house for help, Norris said. It was unclear who the target of those shots was.
